Guatemala- Casa Bernabé Orphanage

At Casa Bernabé (House of Comfort) children find acceptance, stability and healing in the love of Jesus. Casa Bernabé is a beautiful 13-acre campus near Guatemala City that is home to more than 150 children. All of the children come out of difficult living situations. Some are orphans, others have been abandoned, others abused. Each child belongs to a loving, nurturing family made up of house parents and their own children. Together they live in individual houses large enough for 15-20 children of the same age group. As a family unit they eat, pray, play and work together. Everyone at Casa Bernabé belongs to a larger, international family. Guatemalans, missionaries and people from different languages and backgrounds work together to make this a place of hope and healing.

March 2013
This year we were able to take a team of 23 people to the orphanage!  What a blessing!  Our team was able to accomplish a vast amount of work this week.  The main project we were given was to reconstruct the road coming into the orphanage.  Many long hours were spent breaking up the old road by pickaxe, digging down and laying a new foundation, and then after cleaning the pavers, re-setting them and pouring concrete.  Our team was able to replace a long stretch of the road.  Some of the team was able to build a new fence to help with the safety of toddlers.  Much painting was done on the outside of one of the buildings, while others aided in maintaining the large garden on campus.  Basketball goals were fixed and many helped throughout the day in the baby house and the toddler house.  It was great to watch as members of the team developed relationships with the kids despite the language barrier.  Another successful year!

November 2010

The team of 6 this week was able to construct window lattices to protect the glass from soccer balls, finish building a computer lab after 2 years of construction, and help with the children, especially in the baby house.  The trip was a huge success!
